Women have been playing leading and important role in the construction industry from the very beginning. Even with the passage of time and changing technology, the percentage of women employees have gradually but constantly improved. Due to the prevailing socio-economic environment, women have been getting employment easily in q s t r u c t i o n industry vis-a-vis other industries as it requires higher qualifications and experience. Construction industry has been a boon for helpless, illiterate, migratory labour who have been leaving their original place of living in search of employment and surviving by fulfilling at least their basic human needs.
Objectives
After studying this unit, you should be able to highlight and appreciate the role and importance of women in construction industry.create awareness among the society about the various problem? faced by women during the course of their work and the apathy of the employer as well as government agencies towards their problem?, and discuss the various labour laws providing special protection to women employees.
