Theory Y presents an alternative view of human nature. Its major assumptions are as follows :
- An average human being likes work. He is willing to take responsibility
- External control and punishment are not the only methods to motivate people.
- Man has capacity for self direction.
- Employees can be motivated by rewards which they receive from organisation.
Theory Y presents a positive view of human nature. In any organisation. some managers will have theory X orientation and some will have theory Y orientation. Both of then can play significant role in management of organisation.
